The Story of St. Valentine: A Witness to Christ-Centered Love
St. Valentine was a 3rd-century Catholic priest living during a time when Christianity was outlawed under Roman rule. Emperor Claudius II believed unmarried men made better soldiers, and as a result, Christian marriage was forbidden. Valentine, however, believed deeply in the sanctity of marriage and the sacramental bond between husband and wife.
In quiet defiance of the law, St. Valentine secretly performed Christian marriages, uniting couples in Christ despite the risks. When discovered, he was imprisoned. Even in captivity, Valentine remained faithful—ministering to others, strengthening fellow Christians, and refusing to renounce his faith. Ultimately, he was martyred for his unwavering commitment to Christ.
