Finding God's Direction: Trusting the Lord When You Cannot See the Way

God Doesn't Ask Us to Know the Whole Journey

As human beings, we naturally want certainty. We want to know what comes next before we take the first step. We pray for answers, signs, and reassurance that we're making the “right” decision.

Yet throughout Scripture, we see that God rarely reveals the entire path.

He asks us to trust Him.

Abraham left his homeland without knowing where God would lead him.

Moses faithfully led God's people through the wilderness long before they entered the Promised Land.

Our Blessed Mother gave her wholehearted “yes” to God's plan without knowing all that would unfold in her life.

Each of them walked by faith.

Each trusted God's goodness even when they could not understand His timing.

Their stories remind us that God's will is not simply about arriving at a destination. It is about allowing Him to shape our hearts along the journey.

Sometimes we become so focused on discovering God's plan that we forget the greater invitation:

To know Him. To love Him. To trust Him.

The closer we grow to Christ, the more readily we recognize His voice.

Trusting God When Life Feels Uncertain

There are seasons when life feels beautifully clear.

Then there are seasons filled with waiting.

Waiting for healing.

Waiting for an answer.

Waiting for a child.

Waiting for a spouse.

Waiting for a job.

Waiting for reconciliation.

Waiting for peace.

Those seasons can test our faith.

We may wonder if God hears our prayers or if we've somehow missed His will.

But God's silence is never His absence.

Just because we cannot see Him working doesn't mean He isn't.

Our Heavenly Father sees what we cannot.

He knows the conversations we'll have next month. He knows the opportunities we haven't yet imagined. He knows the people He will place in our lives. He knows the crosses that will strengthen us, transform us and the blessings that will surprise us.

Our task is not to control the future.

Our task is to remain faithful today.

It is often in the waiting that God transforms us. While we are longing for an answer, He may be quietly preparing our hearts to receive it.

Even when it feels like nothing is happening, God is always at work in us, using even uncertain seasons to draw us closer to Him and prepare us for what He has planned.

Peace Comes From His Presence, Not Perfect Answers

Many people believe they'll finally have peace once they know exactly what God wants them to do.

But Christian peace is much deeper than certainty.

Peace comes from knowing Christ.

When Jesus calmed the storm, He didn't first remove His disciples from the boat. He reminded them that He was already with them.

Likewise, God may not immediately remove every uncertainty in our lives, but He promises His presence through every storm.

St. Paul reminds us:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6–7

Notice that Scripture doesn't promise immediate answers.

It promises peace.

That peace comes when we surrender our hearts to the Lord and trust Him one day at a time. We should all strive to find and hold onto that peace, especially in the midst of life's uncertainties and challenges. But true and lasting peace cannot come from the circumstances around us—it can only be found and maintained through Jesus. When we remain close to Him, He gives us the strength and grace to carry whatever comes our way with a peaceful and trusting heart. One beautiful way to draw closer to Jesus and find this peace is through Eucharistic Adoration.

One of the Greatest Places to Find Direction: Eucharistic Adoration

If you are searching for clarity, I encourage you to spend time with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration.

In our busy world, silence has become rare. Our minds are constantly occupied with schedules, emails, social media, responsibilities, and endless distractions. Adoration is an invitation to leave all of that behind.

Simply come before Jesus.

In Eucharistic Adoration, we aren't simply thinking about Jesus or imagining that He is with us. As Catholics, we believe in the Real Presence—that Jesus Christ is truly, really, and substantially present in the Eucharist. The consecrated Host placed in the monstrance is truly Jesus. His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity are present before us.

The same is true of the Eucharist reserved in the tabernacle. When you enter a Catholic church and see the sanctuary lamp burning beside the tabernacle, you can know that Jesus is truly there.

Think about what that means: when you spend time in Adoration, you are literally spending time with Jesus. The same Jesus who walked the roads of Galilee, who healed the sick, who welcomed sinners, who died for us on the Cross, and who rose from the dead is truly present before you in the Blessed Sacrament.

You don't have to imagine Him there. He is there.

And He invites you to come closer. He waits for you with infinite love.

Just bring your heart.

Bring Him your sadness.

Bring Him your happiness.

Bring Him your fears.

Bring Him your disappointments.

Bring Him your hopes.

Bring Him your family.

Bring Him the decisions you're trying to make.

Bring Him everything.

Then...

Kneel in prayer. Sit quietly.

Rest in His presence.

Listen with the ears of your heart.

Sometimes we spend so much time asking God to speak that we forget to become quiet enough to hear Him.

Many of the saints discovered that God's voice is often found not in the noise of the world but in the stillness of His Eucharistic presence.

It is here that many people receive unexpected clarity, renewed courage, and a peace that cannot be explained.

If you are able, I encourage you to make time for Eucharistic Adoration a regular part of your life—even if you can only begin with a few minutes each day. The more time you spend with Jesus, the more you will begin to notice a change within your soul. Your heart becomes quieter. Your trust grows deeper. Your worries begin to feel lighter, and you become more aware of His presence in your everyday life.

Give Jesus the gift of your time.

A Beautiful Prayer Before the Blessed Sacrament

As you begin your time in Adoration, you may wish to pray these timeless words:

O Sacrament most holy,
O Sacrament divine,
All praise and all thanksgiving
Be every moment Thine.

Then continue with this beautiful prayer:

I adore You, Jesus, true God and true Man, present in the Holy Eucharist. Kneeling before You and united in spirit with all the faithful on earth and all the saints in heaven, in gratitude for so great a blessing, I love You with all my heart, for You are worthy of all praise and adoration. Lord Jesus Christ, may I never offend You with my lack of love. May Your Eucharistic presence refresh me in body and soul. Mary, Mother of the Eucharistic Lord, pray for me and obtain for me a greater love for Jesus. Amen.
